In the year 1990 she was a graduate of Saint Joseph High school in Lakewood California. DuVernay started producing for broadcast journalism while she was in her college. Her career began working as an assistant at CBS News in the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay was told to examine the garbage from a home belonging to a jury member. Her tasks left her disappointed by journalism and she made the decision to go into the publicity industry. DuVernay was employed by a tiny studio as a junior publicist immediately after graduation. The DuVernay Agency is her first agency for public relations. In addition to PR, the company has created lifestyle networks and advertising campaigns such as the Urban Beauty Collective.
